South Korea Guest Country at the 2019 Göteborg Book Fair

Each year the Göteborg Book Fair highlights certain themes focusing on literature and reading. The Göteborg Book Fair can now present the Guest Country for 2019: South Korea. In June, the agreement was signed with Seoul Book Fair and Korean Publishers Association.

“I am proud that South Korea is the Göteborg Book Fair’s Guest Country for 2019. It is an exciting country with a vibrant culture and its publishing is appreciated internationally. I visited the country in 2016 and am certain that this will be a brilliant cultural exchange. We will also put emphasis on sixty years of diplomatic relations between our countries”, the Book Fair Director Frida Edman says.

Mr. Yoon, Chul ho, the president of Korean Publishers Association:
"Sweden is very far from South Korea, but it is a favorite country of Koreans. I am very happy to have the opportunity to introduce South Korean books and culture to Sweden. South Korea has not been on the world stage for a long time after the colonial era and the Korean War, but it has a long history and cultural heritage, and at the same time it is the most modern place to live. With the introduction of South Korean literature and ideas, I hope that the people of both countries will understand each other and share friendship."

The South Korean theme for 2019 will be presented in more detail at the concluding press conference at this year’s Göteborg Book Fair, which will take place September 27–30.
