Adapted Arrival Day for LU’s incoming international students

The Arrival Day for international students who are to begin their studies at Lund University in the spring of 2022 is Monday 10 January, 2022. All the events during the reception day and introductory weeks have been adapted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lund University expects around 600 international students this spring. Just like the previous number of semesters during the ongoing pandemic, it is anticipated that we will receive fewer students this semester compared to pre-covid years, due to restrictions and closed borders.

The aim of Arrival Day is to welcome the students, provide them with information and ensure that they settle into their accommodation. The students are met at Copenhagen Airport by Lund University staff who help them on their way to Lund’s Central Station, where buses are waiting to take the students to Ingvar Kamprad Design Center, IKDC. At IKDC the students check in and collect their keys. Transport is arranged to take them to their accommodation. All parts of the procedure have been adapted to avoid the risk of spreading infection.

Adaptations for this year’s Arrival Day include:

  • Staff ensure that recommended social distancing is respected and provide information on the current restrictions.
  • Staff direct students arriving at Copenhagen Airport to the train for Lund.
  • Hired buses providing good social distancing between passengers transport the students directly from Lund’s Central Station to IKDC.
  • Arrival Day events are held in spacious premises at IKDC that have been adapted to avoid crowding.
  • Hand sanitiser and face masks are available.
  • The students and their luggage are driven from IKDC to the students’ accommodation in minibuses that provide good social distancing between the students.
  • Previous printed material is mainly provided via Canvas.

During the Orientation Week, a programme of events is offered that aims to make the students feel welcome at Lund University and provides opportunities to get acquainted with the city and Swedish culture. This year it will also be a period that offers frequent opportunities to provide information about the recommendations of the Public Health Agency and the University, and show what can be arranged under safe conditions.

Adaptations for this year’s Orientation Programme include:

  • A small number of physical activities will be arranged with very small numbers of participants with room for distance.
  • Information meetings, seminars and information fairs are online.
  • Filmed information material is available on the web.
  • Service and assistance are offered via the International Desk’s Zoom drop-in and by telephone and email.
  • During the Orientation Week it is also possible to visit the International Desk but students can also have a contactless check in and pick up a welcome bag.
  • Social online forum with e.g., quizzes.
