Lund University’s deputy vice-chancellor Sylvia Schwaag Serger is a new member of Prime Minister Stefan Löfven’s National Innovation Council.

“I am very pleased about the confidence placed in me, together with the other members of the council, to contribute ideas and experiences in matters that are very important for Sweden’s future”, says Sylvia Schwaag Serger.

The Innovation Council is a forum for collaboration between different groups and sectors for the development of the Government’s innovation work. The members of the National Innovation Council have experience and expertise from different sectors of society such as industry and academia.

The eleven external members are tasked with contributing ideas and advice on the Government’s innovation work from their perspectives.
The need for change and innovative radical solutions at a time when all sectors are undergoing changes, not least due to new technology and digitalisation, is something that Sylvia Schwaag Serger often raises in different circumstances.

“From a global perspective, all sectors will undergo changes. New technology and digitalisation will revolutionise our production, professional life and consumption”, says Sylvia Schwaag Serger.

Collaboration between several societal actors and policy areas is necessary to manage the implementation of these pervasive changes.

“Sweden ranks as one of the world’s most innovative countries. However, I believe there is more to be done, not least to achieve the goals in Agenda 2030 and the transitions required of the country’s authorities, businesses, research funders and HEIs to tackle the major societal challenges”, says Sylvia Schwaag Serger.

Other members of the innovation council besides Prime Minister Stefan Löfven include ministers Isabella Lövin, Magdalena Andersson, Ibrahim Baylan and Matilda Ernkrans.
