Information from Management
Hi all CEC’ers, hope you are enjoying the autumn and the beautiful weather!
In the management group we have received some interesting news from the Faculty. It seems that it might be possible, after all, to find localities where there is room for all of us. Pending further information, I have decided to cancel the planned move of some of the CEC-research groups in January next year. It would be incredibly valuable if we could all sit together and we hope for a solution. We will come back when we know more.

The search for a new economist who can replace Eva continues and we have received good help from the Faculty. While waiting for a new person, Galina Garkavij (some know her from her time at the Biology Department) will be stepping in at 25 per cent to relieve the organization, something we are very happy about! Galina will be based at the Faculty and supervised by Monica Bengtsson. If you need help with financial matters, please continue to contact Rebecca Malmström until a permanent replacement is found; Rebecca then takes questions to the faculty when needed. The exception is full cost applications that you hand in directly to Marianne Hall

Please continue to have patience and, as far as possible, plan ahead of time when you need administrative support. Make use of the administrative guides that are available on the CEC staff pages.

More on the administration: Karin Hofvendahl will not be in the office in the near future. If you have administrative questions that you would normally take with Karin, please contact Per Persson or Anna Ekberg.
Opportunities
On 7 October from 9:00, you have an opportunity to present your research to the first-year environmental students. Please contact Katarina Hedlund if you are interested. The format will be a short presentation from you followed by 10 minutes of questions from students.

Media and publications
Raül Lopez I Losada has co-authored a scientific report on non-bee pollinators published by the European Chemicals Agency: In essence, the report draws the conclusion that we are far away from having enough data on most non-bee pollinator species to be able to protect them via chemical risk assessment requirements. Hopefully, this will lead to further political action and funding opportunities for research to increase this knowledge.

“Critical breakpoints may already be here”
The newspaper ETC writes about new climate reports, which show that countries need to increase their climate commitments sevenfold and warn that irreversible threshold effects may occur earlier than expected. Markku Rummukainen points out that emissions must be reduced in all sectors and that carbon sinks in forests and other ecosystems should be protected.
