Some highlights in this issue: The Pufendorf Insitute has opened the call for Themes 2019, a great opportunity to get a research group together and explore innovative ideas. The Swedish Research Council has released the dates for their 2019 calls, and for all of us who struggle with the communications sections in the research applications - Mistra has released av very useful handbook on the subject.

Information – Opportunities, conferences, news from our community

Opportunities
  • Opportunity for your PhD-students – summer school at IIASA, Austria, tell them about it! Each participant works on a topic related to his or her PhD thesis and to IIASA’s own research agenda, the goal being to write a publishable paper. Info about the summer school in this link. Fully funded by FORMAS, info in this link. Deadline Jan 11.

  • NMT - days (Naturvetenskap-, Medicin- och Teknikdagarna), register as a speaker deadline November 16. Inspire and give popular talks at the University for high-school students March 18-22. Talks works fine in both Swedish and English. Read more about the NMT-dagarna in Swedish.

  • Forskarhjälpen (Researchhelp)
    Do you want help in gathering data and interact with high school students? Forskarhjälpen is a project by Nobelmuseet and financed by by Stiftelsen för Strategisk Forskning. Read more and register November 23 in Swedish.

  • Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC) first annual Biodiversity Lecture with Professors Rosemary Grant and Peter Grant of Princeton University. November 20 at 14.00 in the Wallenberg Conference Centre, Gothenburg/web streamed. The event is free, but please register if attending. No registration is required to view the lecture online.

  • Swedish research Council: The dates are now set for the 2019 call deadlines, link here

  • Mistra has released a handbook in communication, link here (in Swedish) and opens up for envirionmental communication call read more here (or in Swedish)

  • The government has received a new report (SOU 2018:78) on internationalisation, "Increased attractiveness for the knowledge nation Sweden" link here (in Swedish)

  • WWF has released their bi-annual Living planet Report, of trends in global biodiversity and the health of the planet. Link here.

Keywords: conservation biology, biodiversity, landscape ecology, links between science and societal implementation

1. Contribute to increased interaction between science and conservation administration and implementation.

2. Experiences from conservation administration and management outside academia made me curious and more aware of the need to understand organizational structures, environmental policy and interested in how we can use science for better informed decision making.

Keywords: aerosol particles, soot, atmospheric processing, time-of-flight mass spectrometry

1. Expertise in advanced in-situ aerosol particle measurements (e.g. physicochemical characterization of aerosol particles “online”, without collection and transport to measurement device)

2. Someone asked me if I wanted to do a MSc. thesis about a neat new instrument just acquired, about a decade ago (it still runs, and I am close to figuring out how it works).
