Stadsluftens hälsobelastning på barn Barn är särskilt känsliga för luftföroreningar. En ny studie visar att förskolebarn i trafiktäta storstadsområden är ute betydligt kortare tid av sin dag på förskolan men riskerar samtidigt att andas in en dubbelt så hög dos av luftföroreningar jämfört med barn i medelstora och mindre orter. Resultaten av studien som genomförts på tio förskolor i Skåne, såväl storstad som mindre orter, presenteras i rapporten ”Stadsluftens hälsobelastning på barn”. Idag står denna produktion för cirka 10 procent av de globala koldioxidutsläppen och det riktas stark kritik mot att branschen inte tar ansvar för sociala frågor och miljöpåverkan. Den stora frågan är om mode kan bli hållbart. Läs artikeln – ht.lu.se Många skäl att sköta sjöns vatten Att inte kunna skönja botten vid ett dopp i en av våra svenska sjöar är inget ovanligt. Sjövatten som färgas brunt av organiskt material kan vara ett problem för badande turister, men ställer främst till det för ekosystemet och dricksvattnet. Med fokus på sjön Bolmen samlas nu forskare, myndigheter och lokala aktörer i ett forskningsprojekt för att tillsammans hitta metoder som kan lösa vattenutmaningen. Läs artikeln – lu.se Klimatforskare granskar partiernas politik: vilka lyssnar på vetenskapen och vilka är sämst i klassen? Merparten av de politiska partierna har för stort fokus, och en övertro, på tekniska lösningar, snarare än att förändra de beteenden och system som orsakar klimatkrisen. Med MP och V som undantag. Det visar en ny rapport framtagen av forskare som har analyserat riksdagspartiernas klimatpolitik inför valet 2022. Rapporten baseras på enkätsvar om respektive partis klimatpolitik. Moderaterna besvarade inte enkäten. Läs artikeln – lu.se Halvtidsutvärdering: Agenda 2030 en papperstiger? Agenda 2030 har fått ett stort genomslag - men bara inom kommunikationen kring hållbarhet. När det gäller verkliga förändringar på nationell och internationell nivå har de endast haft begränsad effekt. Det framgår av den halvtidsutvärdering som 18 forskare publicerat i tidskriften Nature Sustainability.  Läs artikeln – lu.se Studie visar hur jordens skogar kommer att påverkas av klimatförändringar Forskare har för första gången gjort en heltäckande riskanalys av hur jordens skogar kommer att påverkas av framtida klimatförändringar. Studien visar att sydboreala skogar på norra halvklotet, samt vissa skogar i Afrika och Amazonas, är extra sårbara fram till år 2100. Läs artikeln – lu.se Klimatförändringar slår extra hårt mot nordliga våtmarker under sensommaren Nordliga våtmarker har under tusentals år ackumulerat kol från atmosfären och därigenom haft en kylande effekt på klimatet. Men en ny studie visar att våtmarkernas kolupptag kan minska radikalt om klimatförändringarna leder till ökade temperaturer under sensommaren. Kan nyckeln vara att vi börjar låna mer miljövänliga fordon? Forskare har undersökt frågan hur vi löser framtidens transporter. Läs artikeln – ch.lu.se Fredagsmagasinet om hållbara städer Städer står idag inför olika miljömässiga och sociala hållbarhetsutmaningar kopplade till exempelvis bevarande av biologisk mångfald och klimatanpassning samt stadsbornas välbefinnande. Vad innebär det att styra hållbar stadsutveckling? Vilka spänningar finns mellan stadsplaneringsprocesser, policys och spontana praktiker i stadsrummet? Många bilar som rullar på våra vägar är eldrivna – och de blir fler. Att driva bilen på el är en viktig pusselbit i omställningen till ett fossilfritt samhälle, men den ställer höga krav på batteriteknik och smarta laddlösningar. Fokus för arbetet är att undersöka hur frågor med koppling till klimatutmaningarna hanteras i södra Sverige. This follows from an agenda paper by experts from twelve countries in the top journal Science. What's going on? EU Days 20–21 september EU Days Lund is a meeting place for dialogue and exchange of ideas about the future of the EU and Sweden. Education alone cannot achieve a more sustainable future; however, without education and learning for sustainable development, we will not be able to reach the sustainability goals. The purpose of the quality conference is to share of experiences and good examples of quality work in education at all levels. The Research Board is now announcing funding for interdisciplinary projects for the second and final time. The projects must be relevant for creating new knowledge for sustainable development and Agenda 2030. Call text at formas.se The L’Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science Sweden Prize with support of The Young Academy of Sweden Deadline: 27 September The L’Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science Sweden Prize with support of The Young Academy of Sweden, aims at highlighting promising women in the early stages of their research career in science and creating role models for future generations. The prize is awarded next time in 2023. The prize is awarded to identify, encourage and reward women in research who have demonstrated great potential in science (including medicine), physics, technology or mathematics, and whose work contributes to a sustainable development and in solving humanity's greatest challenges. This knowledge must be able to be used in business or society to provide new products, processes or models. Academics, research institutes, business and the public sector can apply in constellations where academia or research institutes must be the coordinating party. Vinnova plans to grant a maximum of 8 competence centers. Funding for a center is planned to be SEK 4 million for year 1 and SEK 8 million for years 2-5. Participating in the course entitles the students to 3 ECTS, if they join the sessions and complete a short essay afterwards.
