Reflektioner kring hur Lunds universitet kan bidra till hållbar utveckling Lunds universitet anordnar för första gången en universitetsgemensam konferens om hållbar utveckling. Vicerektor för forskning, hållbarhet och campusutveckling, Per Mickwitz, och Emily Boyd, föreståndare för Lunds universitets centrum för studier av uthållig samhällsutveckling, LUCSUS, modererar båda sessioner under konferensen som handlar om hur forskning kan bidra till förändring och belyser de komplexa hållbarhetsutmaningar vi står inför. I den här intervjun delar de med sig av sina tankar om hur Lunds universitet kan arbeta för att främja hållbar utveckling, hur hållbarhetsforskningen kan breddas, samt reflekterar kring externt och internt samarbete och vikten av att integrera hållbarhet i utbildningen. Enligt studien, som publiceras i Nature, feltolkades data vilket fick det att se ut som om avverkningsvolymerna var betydligt större än vad de i själva verket var. Läs artikeln – lu.se Bästa grödorna för att klara proteinskiftet Mycket talar för att mindre kött på tallriken är bra för klimatet. Men vad ska vi äta istället? Livsmedelsforskaren Karolina Östbring listar vilka grödor det snackas om på konferenser, i akademin och industrin och som vi förväntas odla mer av i Sverige. Men allra först bör vi halvera vårt intag av samtliga proteiner, anser hon. Läs artikeln – lu.se Nya mål i fokus för Lunds klimatpolitiska råd Den 7 april lämnade Lunds kommuns klimatpolitiska råd och ordförande Lena Neij över sin tredje rapport till kommunstyrelsen. I år har rådets granskning fokuserat på nya mål för klimatarbetet. Rapporten visar att utsläppen i Lund halverats genom åtgärder som kommunen själv råder över, men att arbetet nu måste bli kraftfullare, ha en betydligt högre takt och ske i samverkan med andra aktörer. Lunds klimatpolitiska råd består av åtta experter med tvärvetenskaplig kompetens från Lunds universitet och SLU Alnarp. Läs artikeln – lu.se Agenda 2030: Har EU-indikatorer ett mervärde? Forskare i samhällsvetenskap har på flera områden studerat framväxten av ett utvärderingssamhälle där mätbarhet, rapportering och rankningar är centrala styrformer. Detta gäller nationellt och i växande grad även internationellt. Ett tydligt exempel är de sjutton globala mål för hållbar utveckling som är en del av Agenda 2030. Sammantaget är det slående att det skapats en rad omfattande och överlappande indikatorsystem för uppföljning av de globala målen, inte minst inom EU:s gränser. Här vill forskare vid Lunds universitet ha hjälp från seniorer och skolelever från hela Sverige för att ta reda på hur tillgängliga bostäder är. Läs artikeln – lu.se Ökad miljönytta med rätt placerade miljöåtgärder Genom att övergå till resultatbaserade miljöersättningar sporras jordbrukare att utföra miljöåtgärder som gör mest miljönytta och inte, som idag, göra sådant som stör den ordinarie produktionen minst. Det kan till exempel handla om att placera så kallade skyddszoner på rätt ställen. Det menar William Sidemo Holm som nyligen disputerat med en avhandling om biologisk mångfald och ekosystemtjänster i jordbrukslandskap. Läs artikeln – lu.se Isolerade öar ytterst känsliga för mänsklig påverkan Koloniseringen av avlägsna öar har bidragit till oåterkalleliga förändringar i öarnas ekosystem. Det visar en internationell studie där bland annat forskare från Lunds universitet medverkar. Genom att analysera 5 000 år gammalt pollen kan forskargruppen blottlägga öarnas sårbarhet. Läs artikeln – lu.se Myrarnas metanutsläpp mer komplexa än i klimatmodellerna Dagens klimatmodeller är trubbiga verktyg som inte beskriver myrars metanutsläpp på ett tillfredsställande sätt. Det slår en internationell forskargrupp fast i en ny studie. Istället för att bara ta hänsyn till temperaturförändringar måste fler faktorer lyftas in i modellerna. Läs artikeln – lu.se Vem ska bort? En utställning om invasiva främmande växter Vilka växter ska få finnas och vilka ska bort? Denna fråga står i centrum för en ny utställning om invasiva växter som visas på Pufendorfinstitutet och som invigs under Hållbarhetsveckan i Lund. Utställningen utgår från frågeställningar och en rad paradoxer som ett av institutets Tema-grupper med samma namn, Perspektiv på invasiva främmande växter, undersökt tillsammans under sin tid som Tema 2020-21. Innovationspodden från Venture Lab kommer guida er i innovation och entreprenörskap genom studenter från Lunds Universitets frågor. Senaste avsnittet har tema hållbarhet. Hur kan vi använda entreprenörskap för en mer hållbar framtid? Avsnittet gästas av Deqa Abukar, Rebecca Connee och Moa Persdotter - tre personer med viktiga insikter gällande hållbarhet inom innovationssystemet. In a new article – "Planning for 1000 years: The Råängen experiment" published in the journal Urban Planning – Roger Hildingsson, Johannes Stripple and Alice Herrström have together with Peter Pelzer, Utrecht University, studied how the Church of Sweden as a landowner has taken on a new role as planner and urban developer in the Brunnshög area. Read the article – svet.lu.se New publication: Data-center infrastructure and energy gentrification Which societal functions should be prioritized when the electricity grid reaches its maximum capacity? This highly relevant question is asked by Frans Libertson, Doctoral Student at IIIEE, Julia Velkova, Assistant Professor at Linköping University, and Jenny Palm, Professor at IIIEE, in a newly published policy paper in Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy. Examples of social values are equality, trust, security and well-being.  Call text at vinnova.se Forte: Use, risk use and abuse within ANDTG – The importance of prevention for public health (2021) Deadline: 27 May This is a call for research on use, risk use and abuse within ANDTG. The research should focus on prevention and the interplay between individuals, group processes and the institutional and commercial environment, as well as to what extent existing initiatives contribute to better public health. Further, the focus is limited to research on use, risk use and abuse within the field of “Alcohol, narcotics, doping, tobacco and gambling”. Call text at forte.se Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SFF): Future Research Leader! Deadline: 16 August For the eighth time, SSF is investing in the flagship program “Future Research Leaders” (FFL-8). Since the start in 2000, around 140 successful researchers have participated in the program. Another 16 young researchers are now given the opportunity to participate. During a five-year period, the participants receive a grant of SEK 15 million each and will at the same time receive a solid leadership training. Opportunities PhD Course: Sustainable Development – a Systems View, 5 or 7,5 hp Society’s complex sustainability challenges concern all of us! By relating important scientific questions to sustainability, PhD students can play an important role in addressing these challenges. This course gives you the opportunity to learn about sustainable development from different theoretical perspectives and reflect on how these relate to your own research. Preparatory assignments are “on-demand” to make it easier for you to complete them despite busy schedules. Each module ends with a scheduled seminar, in which the topic of the module is discussed with national and international experts in the area. The extended course (7,5 hp) also includes an individual project.
