School of Economics and Management in New York. Alumni, students and charity
Alumni from the School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) in New York recently got the chance to meet two of the School's famous alumni. UN Ambassador Olof Skoog spoke about the ongoing work at the UN Swedish Security Council. John Abrahamsson, Managing Director in Investment Banking SEB, along with one of LUSEM's honorary doctors, updated the audience about what's going on at the School. The meeting took place in late March at ONE UN New York hotel and in the UN headquarters.

Anders Borg and Cristina Stenbeck
LUSEM has an active alumni network that has grown in both range and reputation in recent years. The event in New York was just one of several alumni meetings hosted in the spring. A couple examples of other events include a breakfast meeting on sustainability at Mannheimer Swartling in Malmö, as well as interesting lectures with Anders Borg and well-known researchers in leadership and finance. Just recently, on 1 June, the alumni were invited when Cristina Stenbeck and Christopher Humphrey, the new honorary doctors of LUSEM, gave their lectures.

LUSEM's efforts to connect students, alumni, businesses and partner companies are carefully planned. Students get information about alumni activities already during their studies, business contacts are available for students and alumni, and the partner companies gain insight into the activities of LUSEM and the knowledge from which they can benefit.

The Hunger Project
In conjunction with the New York alumni meeting, the Alumni Coordinator of LUSEM, Therese Lachmann, and Head of the Corporate Partnership Foundation, Katarina Andrén, visited the Hunger Project. This is an enthralling project in which one of the School’s internships is ongoing, giving two students from Lund the chance to do charity work in New York. The Hunger Project is a global, non-profit, strategic organization with a mission to end hunger and poverty in the world.

Internships are an important part of LUSEM’s outreach activities, which enable students to get useful experience. Career Services is a part of the School thanks to the partner companies and their donations. In collaboration with MyCareer, students are given access to a variety of jobs and internships.
"It's attractive to have abroad work experience on your CV, which shows a driven and courageous personality," said the students in New York.

London next
More interesting alumni events are coming up at LUSEM. The next alumni event abroad will be in London in October when the School's first MOOC, Digital Business Models, will be presented.

Hopefully many alumni will participate in the Alumni Homecoming Weekend 20-22 October, which is a great opportunity to reunite with friends and classmates in Lund. LUSEM welcomes their alumni on 20 October to take part in an interesting lecture and discussion about what happens if and when the economic crisis comes, with two well-known alumni. Who are these alumni? It's a secret for now.
