The National Day of Sweden, 6 June
Since 1983, Sweden has celebrated its National Day on 6 June. This is the date on which Gustav Vasa was crowned king in 1523, which laid the foundation of Sweden as an independent state, and on which a new, important constitution was adopted in 1809.

The National Day of Sweden on June 6 became a public holiday for the first time in 2005. In 2004, the Swedish parliament voted to make it a public holiday. The final decision took decades to reach − various proposals and dates had been discussed under a succession of governments, for instance making Midsummer’s eve or Midsummer’s Day the Swedish National Day.

Are you leaving Lund? Here is your to-do-list:
Some our readers have just experienced the Lund Carnival, got sunburnt by the extremely generous May sun, are about to finish the final exam for the semester or are perhaps just writing the last few lines on their papers before deadline. Some of you may be leaving Lund temporarily for the summer and some of you may be leaving Lund to go home or to other destinations. There are a few things you may want to know:
  • Before you leave Lund don't forget to let the tax office know!
If you are planning to leave Sweden either permanently or for more than one year, be sure to register your new address with the tax office. This information updates automatically with the university as well, which can help if you wish to have transcripts sent. More information can be found here

  • Apply for a degree certificate
Some of you may have completed a degree at Lund University (bachelor or master) and wish to apply for a degree certificate. Read more about the procedure here

  • End your Swedish bank accounts
If you are leaving Sweden and have a Swedish bank account, don’t forget to end it before you leave Lund. It is very difficult to access your account from another part of the world and it will create a lot of extra work for both you and your bank.

  • Sell bike, books and other used items
Did you buy course literature and/or a bike and you don’t want to bring them with you back home? Lundaböcker on Kiliansgatan 11 can help you sell your used bikes, books and even phones.
    Find more information about Lundaböcker

“Campusbokhandeln” (formerly known as Andrahandsbokhandeln) can also help you sell your old course literature. Read more about Campusbokhandeln

If you have lots of things from your student room that you do not want to bring you when leaving Sweden, you can donate your things to charity at, for example, Erikshjälpen on Stora Södergatan 25. You can leave things through the stock entrance on Lilla Södergatan 18.
Find opening hours on the Erikshjälpen website
