Pehr Andersson was our keynote speaker at the Alumni Network's Pre-Lundakarnevalen mingle on 17 May and shared many happy memories from his time as general of "Genialkarnevalen" 1986. We also took the opportunity to interview Pehr about the importance of Lundakarnevalen and his visions for future of the city of Malmö.

Name: Pehr Andersson

Hometown: Malmö, Sweden

Education from Lund University: Law studies

Current job: Director of Trade and Industry in Malmö

Involvement in student activities during your studies: Qurator of Malmö Nation in 1983, involved in "Lundaspexarna" and was general of Lundakarnevalen in 1986.
What does Lundakarnevalen mean for you?
Lundakarnevalen means a lot to me. I regularly meet up with the old committee from 1986, the year I was general of Lundakarnevalen. The theme that year was Genial Carnival (meaning Genius Carnival). The theme speaks a bit for itself as to what we delivered to carnival-goers...

Lundakarnevalen was a way for me to meet new people and form a larger network while also having a good time.

What do you work with today?
Today I work as the Director of Trade and Industry in Malmö. This job includes varied work with varying work hours, ranging from weekdays to weekends. In my role, I work with business development; in other words, that companies choose to be based and expand in Malmö. I also work with labor market issues, something that I think is very fun and interesting. For nine years I have worked as the Director of Trade and Industry, but previously I have been a trainee at Pripps and worked at Cell Network. I enjoy my job very much.

What are the largest challenges you meet in your work as the Director of Trade and Industry?
The challenges in my job are probably the same challenges as in all other workplaces; to be able to deliver what is expected to be delivered!

If you could freely envision the future, what kind of development do you want to see in Malmö’s business sector and labor market within a ten-year period?
That Malmö continues to grow sustainably and that the city is attractive and modern for people who live in the city, who work in the city and for everyone visiting the city.

Why do you think alumni should join the Alumni Network?
Being a member of the Alumni Network is good for a number of reasons – keeping a connection to the University and to former classmates, simply staying in touch. Also, to get information about what's happening at the University and to hear about former classmates. If you live further away from Lund, for example in Stockholm or abroad, it can be a very good way to stay up to date and informed. To put it simply, the network it a great way to keep in touch. Alumni events, like the pre-Lundakarnevalen mingle, for example, are a great way to meet others. It is also a way to give back to the University, which is fun.
