Making the case for NCD prevention: A new simulation tool from Sweden

11:00-13:00, 23 September 2025, New York
Join us for a presentation of NCDSim, a new Swedish simulation tool that illustrates how lifestyle factors impact the development of two major NCDs - cardiovascular disease and cancer.

Developed in collaboration between the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden), and the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, NCDSim was introduced earlier this year as the result of a joint effort that began in 2019.

The tool demonstrates the population-level impact of risk factors such as smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, and physical activity. It enables scenario-based calculations of how the risk factors affect incidence, mortality and related healthcare costs. NCDSim makes it possible to visualise the long-term effects and the impact that can be achieved through preventive efforts.

The aim of this event is to showcase the tool and inspire data-driven public health action to help meet the global target of reducing premature deaths caused by NCDs.

A high-level panel of experts and policymakers will explore the topic from Swedish, European, and global perspectives, and share their priorities ahead of the upcoming UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health.
