Bridgerton author Julia Quinn makes her first author visit to the Nordics – coming to the Gothenburg Book Fair in September
Gothenburg Book Fair is proud to announce its first guest for this year’s fair: Julia Quinn, the bestselling author behind the world-famous Bridgerton series. With 1.2 million books sold in Sweden alone and a Netflix series that has captivated audiences worldwide, she is an icon in the romance genre. Now, she is making her very first author visit to the Nordic region, where she will meet her Swedish readers in Gothenburg. She is the perfect guest for this year’s theme: Love and Lust.
"It is an honour to be the first author announced for the Gothenburg Book Fair 2025. It has been a joy to connect with my Nordic readers online, and now I am truly looking forward to finally meeting them in person. When I heard about this year’s theme, Love and Desire, I knew immediately that I wanted to take part. Books that focus on emotions and the pursuit of happiness are often overlooked in literary circles, and I am delighted that the Book Fair is celebrating literature about love and relationships," says Julia Quinn.

This will be Julia Quinn’s first-ever author visit to the Nordic region – a long-awaited event for both readers and fans of the Netflix series. While the Bridgerton books have become a global sensation, Julia Quinn’s literary work extends far beyond this famous series. Her novels have topped bestseller lists worldwide, and with a total of 1.2 million books sold in Sweden, she is one of the most significant literary phenomena of recent years. In terms of population size, Sweden is among the countries where she has sold the most books per capita.

"We are incredibly proud to welcome one of the world’s leading romance authors to Gothenburg and the Book Fair! Julia Quinn is not just a legend in the genre; she has also been a passionate advocate for romance fiction and its rightful place in literature since day one. The fact that she will finally meet her many Swedish readers is truly special," says Ebba Östberg, Julia Quinn’s Swedish publisher and Publishing Director at Bokförlaget Forum, Bonnier Fakta and Lovereads.

Romance and the Theme of Love and Lust
Romance is one of the world’s most widely read and beloved literary genres, with a large and devoted readership spanning generations. It is also one of the most commercially successful genres, particularly in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, and its popularity continues to grow in the Nordic region.

"This is why it is especially exciting to highlight romance this year, with Love and Lust as the Book Fair’s theme. Julia Quinn’s participation presents a fantastic opportunity to explore the genre and its significance. We aim to delve into the role of love and passion in literature from multiple perspectives – from relationships and psychology to society, culture and eroticism," says Oskar Ekström, Program Director at the Gothenburg Book Fair.

At the fair, Julia Quinn will take part in seminars and stage discussions, sharing insights into her writing, the Bridgerton series, and the rise of romance fiction.

Bridgerton Fever and a New Netflix Season
Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels about the Bridgerton family have captivated readers for over 20 years, but gained an enormous surge in popularity with the Netflix series produced by Shondaland. The show remains one of Netflix’s biggest hits, and the Bridgerton universe continues to grow in popularity. The big question on many fans’ minds now is: will season 4 be released in 2025? Regardless of when the next instalment reaches our screens, there are plenty of new stories to discover – both in book form and in the beloved TV series. Julia Quinn’s visit to the Book Fair will be a highlight for all Bridgerton fans.

The following series by Julia Quinn have been published in Swedish: The Rokesby Series, The Smythe-Smith Quartet, and The Bridgerton Series.

Further details about the Gothenburg Book Fair 2025 will be announced at the programme launch on 27 May.
