NanoLund and Lund Nano Lab have leading roles in the European Chips Act. Many in Europe have been eagerly awaiting the results of the first calls in the European Chips Act for pilot lines, with the aim to enhance existing and develop new advanced pilot lines across the Union to enable development and deployment of cutting-edge semiconductor technologies and next-generation semiconductor technologies. Also, we in NanoLund have our stake in the call, and have together with Swedish partners at Linköpings universitet, Chalmers tekniska högskola and Kungliga Tekniska högskolan been invited to be part of a pilot line for Wide Bandgap materials. We were very happy when the Chips Joint Undertaking (JU) announced that the Public Authorities Board approved all four pilot line proposals. Lund University and Vanya Darakchieva will lead the Workpackage on III- N radiofrequency and power device technologies of the Wide Bandgap pilot line. “It is a great honour to be internationally recognized for our leading role in research on wide-bandgap materials for power electronics. We are happy and eager to work together with European partners and industries for establishing a resilient wide band gap semiconductors ecosystem” says Vanya Darakchieva. The III-Nitride activities are focussed on the developments of state-of-the-art epitaxy, radiofrequency and power HEMTs and FinFETS. The target applications for power devices include smart grid, electric train traction, wind turbines, power components for propulsion and charging of electric vehicles. Through the industrial collaboration within the Centre for III-nitride technology (C3NiT), a Vinnova Competence Centre also led by Vanya Darakchieva, the pathway to innovation where these technologies lead to an actual benefit in society is facilitated. It will also be an important development of Lund Nano Lab. Center for Nanoscience at Lund University – a great place to work at the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
About us
NanoLund, the centre for research, education and innovation in nanoscience at Lund University, engages over 400 researchers, students and staff at the faculties of engineering, science and medicine. It is a strategic research area funded by the Swedish Government and Sweden’s largest research environment for nanoscience and nanotechnology. Our ambition is to be a Great Place to do Nanoscience: an international, highly visible center offering exceptional scientific opportunities, training, and career development. We do this with a culture of openness and by offering access to a range of state-of-the-art capabilities within characterization, nanofabrication and modelling. We contribute to societal and sustainability challenges, for instance in health and clean energy, using the tools of nanoscience and nanotechnology. To this end, our research rang NanoLund, formerly known as the Nanometer Structure Consortium, founded in 1988, supports and coordinates activities within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University. Our overarching goal is to use nanostructures to address important needs of society, such as solving the energy challenge and improving the quality of life. More specifically, our scientific focus is the materials science, the safety and the fundamental physics and chemistry of highly controlled, functional nanostructures, as well as their applications in fundamental science, in energy conversion, in electronics and in the life sciences. This includes the continuous development of advanced tools for the fabrication, characterization and theory of nanostructures, with a current focus on semiconductor nanowires. Key resources are Lund Nano Lab, an open nanofabrication facility run by NanoLund, as well as a wide range of advanced characterization instruments organized in Lund Nano Characterization Labs. We are strongly engaged in nanoscience education from the undergraduate through the postdoctoral levels, as well as in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Please join us in welcoming our new Lab Assistant in the Lund Nano Lab – say hi to Erik Tran!
I'm delighted to announce my new position as a Lab Assistant at Lund Nano Lab! Lund Nano Lab is hosted by the Department of Physics at Lund University and Nano Lund, and was established in 2007. It is a top-tier research laboratory, focusing on materials science, nanotechnology, microelectronics, and quantum technology. It is an open research facility, providing resources and tools for more than 120 concurrent researchers worldwide in the aforementioned fields. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Luke Hankin and Håkan Lapovski for this incredible opportunity to observe, interact with, and learn from the accomplished researchers and engineers at Lund Nano Lab!

While we celebrate that we have passed 8000 followers here on LinkedIn, we would like to take the opportunity also to share a recent opinion piece from Dagens Nyheter. Here, Lunds tekniska högskola’s Dean Annika Olsson and Professor Lars-Erik Wernersson together with several other members of Kungl. Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien, IVA (The Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences) explain why the small but crucial components – #semiconductors – are so important. “Sweden has a unique opportunity to take a leading role in the European semiconductor industry. With the right investments, political courage, and financial resources from the government, we can create new jobs, strengthen our industry, and secure our welfare. It is time to act now.” Lunds universitet • Stefan Bengtsson • Chalmers tekniska högskola • Erik Dahlquist • Mälardalens universitet • Martin Gren • Axis Communications • Björn Ekelund • Ericsson • Anders Söderholm • Kungliga Tekniska högskolan • Johan Soderstrom • Hitachi Energy #nanoscience #nanotechnology https://lnkd.in/diPVG9vX

We couldn’t agree more! Working together for a greener and brighter future with advanced materials 🌿 ☀ 🐜
Excited to share our recent endeavors in magnetic nanostructures at LINXS Institute of advanced Neutron and X-ray Science. At NanoLund, we're working on methods to construct magnetic nanostructures from nanoparticle building blocks. Our goal is to tailor the properties of the structures and develop them for various future applications such as in soft robotics. Let's hope for a greener and brighter future with advanced materials!

Cooperation between industry and academia is important to handle large challenges in society. Tetra Pak and Lund University explore ways to reduce carbon footprint of packaging materials together in WISE – Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability research project. “Currently, we are successfully identifying people and infrastructure at Tetra Pak as well as Lund University to be able to manufacture and characterize the new barrier solution, which consists of both polymers and inorganic materials. This effort requires people with knowledge of different material science backgrounds”, says Maria Messing, professor at NanoLund. https://lnkd.in/dAfRUy7r #materialsscience #sustainability #industry #research #cooperation
