The Graduate School in Asian Studies has gotten off to a good start with a range of activities during its first three months. In January a website was launched, and in February we did a survey on the situation and needs among PhD students in Sweden. This will help us develop the Graduate School and will be followed up with further surveys.
In February we also organised the first PhD course, Research Ethics and Fieldwork in An Authoritarian Context (3 ECTS), which gathered 12 students, eight from Swedish universities, one from Finland, one from Denmark, and two from Austria. The course had professor Marlies Glasius from Amsterdam as a guest speaker. Since the course fills an obvious gap in PhD education and in light of authoritarian developments it will be a recurrent course in the Graduate School with the next round probably in spring 2024.
Other events for the fall semester include a new course, Ideologies in East and South-East Asia: Legacies and contemporary developments, a workshop on Indonesia, and much more, with more information to follow.
If you have news relating to Asian studies such as newly published articles for example, please contact our Communications Officer and we will publish the news on the Graduate School of Asian Studies website.
Spring wishes, Marina Svensson Coordinator of the Graduate School in Asian Studies
