The autumn semester has just started and we look forward to an inspiring fall! We welcome a diverse group of some 30 new MA students to the Centre, and hope you will enjoy your stay with us. This semester we offer a new elective course,
Body Politics in East and South-East Asia, which seems to fill a gap among courses at Lund University as a total of 32 students have accepted their place in the course.
For those enrolled in any of our courses at the Centre and for those who are not but interested to learn more about the region, we have a very rich programme of different public lectures and film screenings during the fall. The next two upcoming lectures will be on gender issues. The first one focuses on
only daughters in China and is given by Associate Professor Ye Liu, King's College London on 17th September. That lecture is followed by a film screening, a new documentary on the life of three young Chinese women, where we are also joined by the film director Karin Wegsjö. (
Please note that you need to register for the film, see here). The following week, on 24th September, we are joined by Yookyeong Im, Lecturer at Sheffield University, who will talk about
queer activism in South Korea. In the coming months there will be lectures on Cambodian politics (online) and Asian studies, and more lectures and events will be published shortly on our webpage, so check
our calendar and our social media.
Finally, I like to tell you about some changes in administrative roles at the Centre. After nine years as director of the Centre I am stepping down end of September, and my role will be taken over by
Dr Stefan Brehm who also recently became the new director of studies of our BA and MA education. I will also step down as director of studies of our PhD programme and that role will be taken over by
Dr Nicholas Loubere. Please check out their profiles on our website and contact them in the future if you have any questions related to their work!
Stay connected and hope to see you at the Centre!
Best regards
Marina Svensson
