The famous last line in Shelley's poem Ode to the West Wind reads “If winter comes, can spring be far behind.” It can be read figuratively as a mantra to remind and motivate us not to lose hope. It seems like spring is still far away (it is pretty cold yet), and maybe it seems even further away this year due to geopolitical challenges and wars. It is not easy to be optimistic and hopeful but that is what we need to try to be. It is also important to remind ourselves that universities are spaces for critical, constructive, collaborative and compassionate thinking about complex and difficult issues in the world. I hope you find the Centre to be such a space!
For researchers at Lund University we have an informal mingle and fika on 9 April (please e-mail Marina by 1 April if you want to come). Those who are PhD students might be interested in a summer school on China and global extractivism(deadline 14 March).
For those interested to learn more about various topics in Asia, check out the Nordic Asia Podcast series!
Please stay tuned for more interesting events this semester!
Hopeful spring greetings! Marina
