Information from Management

As informed last week, we received the decision from the faculty that the CIG process will proceed. Currently, the CEC leadership group is working to clarify the next steps in collaboration with the faculty. We will ensure to keep you updated with decisions made as well as the process of work.

As at least some of you may know, the rules for short-term employment and fixed-term contracts have changed as of 1 January 2023. The CEC administration is working on clarifying the routines. For those needing to employ field workers this summer, keep informed and plan your work ahead of time. If you have any questions, please contact the administration for support.

We hope the upcoming application season will be productive. Keep in mind that that spring is getting closer and it is less than a month left of Scania winter. Keep safe!

Applying for funding
The updated full cost calculation for 2023 is available through the applying for funding page on the CEC Staff pages. A kind reminder to always fill in a checklist (also available on CEC Staff Pages) and e-mail it to CEC Research coordinator Marianne.hall@cec.lu.se when you apply for funding.

Reporting obligation regarding teaching staff members’ secondary employment (bisyssla)
All teaching staff have an obligation during the first quarter of the year, and by 31 March at the latest, to submit a report on secondary employment. Teaching staff who have no secondary employment are still required to submit a report. Reports are made and assessed in Primula.

Information regarding payment of excess annual leave carried over from 2022.
In accordance with the new rules on excess annual leave, all staff with more than 30 days saved annual leave on 31 December 2022 will receive the excess leave paid out in the April pay period. I.e. if you had 35 days of annual leave saved on 31 December 2022, you will get 5 days paid out.
If you had any annual leave in 2022 but did not register it, please make sure you immediately register it retroactively in Primula. More information is available on the Universities' Staff Pages.

Internal audit concerning purchasing and procurement.
An audit has been conducted which showed several breaches of process and the need for improvement concerning purchasing and procurement. As a result, random checks will be carried out throughout 2023 in order to make sure that proper procedures are followed. The results of the checks will be used to further improve compliance with regulations.

What's up?

25 students from CEC’s master programs and a few students from programs at LTH have participated in a Megagame within a project called Switching the Current (Att vända strömmen in Swedish). In this game a large group of participants play different roles in a simulated geographical region which must change to sustainable energy use in accordance with our national goal of becoming climate neutral.

The people behind the game are conducting an interdisciplinary research project where they are exploring whether, this type of large-scale social simulation can contribute to better, more inclusive conversations about change. Some reflections from the game are: “To make this happen we need to collaborate”, “ I understand why the municipality gets information overload”, “I now see how easy it is to just focus on one thing CO2 (in this case) and forget the other issues, we have to change everything at the same time".
