En resa som varade i 54 timmar och kostade mer än dubbelt så mycket som om hon valt att flyga till Medelhavsön på några timmar. Ändå var flyget aldrig ett alternativ. Läs artikeln med Timothée Parrique – lu.se ”Städbakterier” ger hopp om klorfritt kranvatten I en unik studie i dricksvattenledningar i Halland testade forskare och det lokala vattenbolaget att skippa klor i dricksvattnet. Resultatet? En bakterietillväxt så klart, men efter ett tag kom överraskningen: En ofarlig rovbakterie växte till sig och åt upp flertalet bakterier. Studien tyder på att klor inte alltid behövs om filtreringen är bra samt att rovbakterier på sikt kanske kan användas för att rena vattnet. I Almedalen får de svåra frågorna ta plats Snart reser LU tältet i Visby för två dagars panel­samtal. Universitetets program under Almedalsveckan lyfter flera globala utmaningar som luftföroreningar, matfattigdom och cirkulärt byggande. Men programmet inger också hopp om att hitta lösningar i samverkan mellan akademi och omgivande samhälle. Nevertheless, it has become a highly debated material because of its accumulation in the environment, low recycling rate and fossil origin, thereby contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution. STEPS (Sustainable Plastics & Transition Pathways) is organising a summer school with an aim to provide understanding of the current plastic system and its challenges, pathways to a sustainable plastic system, biobased and biodegradable plastics, recycling solutions, policies, and standards for sustainable plastics. The target audience is academic researchers, university students, industrial scientists, high school teachers, policy makers, staff in different regional bodies and organisations, as well as anyone with an interest in learning more about plastics. Det finns många begrepp och koncept inom hållbarhetsforskningen som är relevanta att känna till även om man inte arbetar direkt med frågorna. Lunds universitet har lanserat en nätbaserad introduktionskurs som ska ge en större förståelse för vokabulären och förmåga att koppla hållbarhetsperspektiv till sitt eget intresseområde. Go to questionnaire – survey.mailing.lu.se Nine new postdocs through the excellence programme for sustainable development Two research projects involving a total of 9 postdocs received a total of SEK 32.7 million in the second round of Lund University’s research programme for excellence, focusing on Agenda 2030 and sustainable development. All positions will be announced on 31 August. Read article – staff.lu.se PhD Course: Sustainable development – a systems view The course provides a broad knowledge base on the topic sustainable development. It consists of modules in which you will learn about different perspectives on sustainable development and relate them to your own research. Each module ends with a seminar in which you get to discuss its specific topic with experts in the field. Possible topics: definition of sustainable development, climate change and its effects, planetary boundaries, circular economy, sustainable business, life cycle thinking, individual action for sustainability, social aspects, occupational health care, sustainable cities, poverty, complex systems, sustainable development and ethics. The course is given in English during the autumn 2023, starting in early September.
