Alumni in Focus: The Prime Minister's Press Secretary Tom Samuelsson

33-year-old alumnus Tom Samuelsson is often seen in the background on Swedish news. When Sweden formally joined NATO, he was right there in Washington D.C. Just a few months later he attended Pope Francis' funeral at the Vatican.

The press secretary job has taken him from Lund to the heart of global affairs. When one of the most challenging moments in his career arrived, Tom turned to his former teachers at the Department of Strategic Communication in Helsingborg for guidance and to see whether research could help him navigate the complex situation.

Lund University Launches Largest Ever Global Recruitment Drive for Researchers

The search is on for 25 researchers from around the world in Lund University’s largest ever international recruitment drive. The main focus will be on AI research and other areas in which the University has a strategic focus.

“In an uncertain world where free research and education are under intense pressure, Lund University is making its largest ever investment in international recruitment. The aim is to attract young talent in order to build creative environments for future research and education, while also linking established leading researchers to the University,” says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.

Unique museum displays war artefacts and the human side of international law
Passports issued by fallen empires, decks of cards from the Iraq war, deceased Ukrainian students' uncollected diplomas and much more. A new museum in Lund is collecting artefacts that show how international law affects people's lives. The deck in the picture was used by US soldiers to identify Iraq's most wanted during the 2003 invasion.

The Elusive Lund Alumnus Who Fought for Ukraine
What does a self-proclaimed king of Corsica have in common with a young Ukrainian nobleman? Well, both are said to have been students at Lund University during a time when the sources are far from watertight. Between 1693 and 1719, the University's central matriculation register is missing – an historical gap that opens the door to both speculation and intriguing stories. Fredrik Tersmeden, Honorary Doctor of Philosophy and archivist at the University Archives, shares how the Ukrainian nobleman Georg Orlik – unlike the mythical Theodor von Neuhoff – actually left traces behind in Lund.
