Battery technology takes off as markets adjust
The development of batteries for electric vehicles has progressed much faster than experts and policymakers had anticipated. New research shows that the market is well equipped to cope with both raw material shortages and price increases. This raises questions about which materials are actually critical to the energy transition, according to the researchers.

Link observed between very high PFAS exposure and asthma in children
Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have investigated the link between exposure to PFAS and the development of asthma. The results show that among children whose mothers had very high levels of PFAS exposure during pregnancy, the risk of asthma was significantly higher than among children whose mothers had lower levels of PFAS exposure.

Large AI investments in Dalarna follow a familiar historical pattern
Large investments are planned in Borlänge and Falun, where an AI cluster and data centre are to be developed on Northvolt’s former land. According to Kerstin Enflo, professor of Economic History at Lund University, history shows that major technology investments can strongly influence long-term development, but also raise important questions about risk, resilience and local impact.

Utrecht’s food sharing initiatives offer lessons for sustainable urban food systems
Researchers from Lund University have analysed 92 food sharing initiatives in Utrecht in the Netherlands, as part of the CULTIVATE project, examining their costs, benefits and challenges. The report highlights how community-driven food sharing can reduce waste, improve access to food and support more sustainable food systems, offering insights relevant to other European cities.

4,000 visitors as Sustainability Week celebrated its 10th anniversary
Sustainability Week 2026 offered an intensive and well-attended programme, as Lund was filled with discussions, meetings and activities centred on sustainable development. Over the course of six days, 73 events were organised, attracting more than 4,000 visitors.

LU Land föreläsning: Urban klimatanpassning – planering för klimatneutrala städer
