As the festive season approaches, we at The Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation take a moment to reflect on an autumn filled with milestones and inspiring encounters.
In a time when headlines are dominated by crises, the future can feel uncertain. Yet every day we find hope – in the incredible project ideas we have the privilege to support. Ideas that make a real difference, locally and globally. These initiatives give us the strength and conviction to keep going, and we will do everything we can to back them in the year ahead.
This year, we have proudly supported many local initiatives. Through the Neighbourhood Initiative, we allocated 10 million SEK to projects that bring people together and strengthen community. Another important step forward is our Board’s decision on the strategic direction for 2026–2030. Our compass is clear: we will continue to work long-term within our focus areas, while staying flexible to meet new needs in civil society.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the organisations and individuals we have worked with this year. You show every day that change is possible.
We wish you a wonderful end to the year and look forward to a new year full of opportunities.

Our Board has set the strategic direction for the next four years. We will continue to focus on culture, the environment and human rights, while broadening our scope with a new focus area: Well-being and Community. This step responds to the growing need for social cohesion and improved mental and physical health.
We remain committed to the power of civil society. In the years ahead, we will support projects that challenge, inspire and make a real difference for people, and planet – locally, nationally and globally.

The Foundation works to strengthen democratic values, protect human rights and promote inclusion. We believe that a strong civil society is essential for a fair and sustainable world.
As part of this commitment, we participated in The Swedish Forum for Human Rights – Sweden’s largest annual forum for human rights – to highlight how civil society can create new opportunities for young people. We hosted a panel discussion featuring organisations from our initiative, ”For Young People’s Future”, which is our largest call for proposals to date - investing 59 million SEK in 24 Swedish projects that strengthen young people’s prospects, increase self-determination, and safeguard their rights.
The panel discussion showcased creative approaches that empower young people in vulnerable situations and counter inequality, demonstrating that change happens when society mobilises and provides timely support. |

Throughout the year, our project managers have travelled across the globe to follow the initiatives we enable – to learn, be inspired and see the work first-hand. One such visit took Nanor to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG), together with the Center for Peacebuilding, equips young people with tools to build democracy and break down barriers.
Bosnia’s education system still bears the marks of the post-war era, where pupils are taught separately under the “two schools under one roof” model, with differing perspectives on history and politics. This risks reinforcing stereotypes and deepening polarisation.
The project Education for Democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina provides young people with knowledge and values to counter discrimination and promote democratic coexistence. AIPG has developed teaching materials to support educators working in a context where post-war trauma remains present. During the visit, Nanor was able to see the work of students participating in Peace Week, which featured powerful reflections on peace and tolerance.

How can sports help reduce tensions between local and refugee communities in Lebanon? Through the project Youth Empowerment through Youth-Led Street Sports, GAME Lebanon has trained young leaders and created safe public spaces for inclusion.
We spoke with Ibrahim Hourani, Lebanon Country Director, about the project’s results and key findings.
Hi Ibrahim, you have been receiving support from The Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation to empower youth and build bridges between local and refugee communities in Lebanon. Can you please tell us more about why Game Lebanon chose to engage in this initiative?
Lebanon faces significant social challenges, including tensions between host and refugee communities. GAME Lebanon believes that sports can be a powerful tool for social change. Through this initiative, we aimed to empower youth as leaders, activate safe public spaces, and foster inclusion and trust. By training young people in civic engagement and sport for development, we created opportunities for them to lead activities that bring communities together.
What role do you think initiatives like yours can play in rebuilding trust and reducing tensions between refugee and host communities?
Initiatives like ours create neutral spaces where youth from different backgrounds interact through sports and cultural activities. This fosters friendships, teamwork, and mutual respect. Our surveys showed that 78% of participants made new friends from different backgrounds, and 86% reported increased participation in their communities, which reflects improved social cohesion and reduced tensions.

Through the project Scaling digital transformative inclusive education, Läkarmissionen aimed to increase access to quality education in vulnerable contexts using digital learning tools in Somalia and Tanzania. The results are impressive: 24 teachers trained, 795 pupils directly reached, and 313 stakeholders involved in workshops. 90 per cent of pupils report improved understanding and academic performance – clear evidence that digital solutions can open new doors for children.

Through the project Kick Off Learning, Street Child has strengthened access to education and safety for children and young people displaced in northern Mozambique. Through sports activities, psychological support and educational initiatives, the project has created hope and a sense of future. The results speak for themselves: 21,000 children have taken part in sports activities, 3,432 children and young people have received psychological support and 666 children have attended accelerated learning programmes, with 481 now back in school. In addition, 192 young people have completed vocational training and 100 have gone on to launch their own initiatives.
