Dearest CELSIUS Followers,
On behalf of the CELSIUS team I would like to thank you for your patience and support during this transition period. 2018 was a very special year for us. We concluded the CELSIUS Project and launched the CELSIUS Initiative through which we will be working closer with our members to facilitate the deployment of sustainable and integrated heating and cooling solutions in cities.
Solidifying our collaboration with our member cities and strengthening our cooperation with European Institutions, the CELSIUS Summit marked a great start for the work that lays ahead for us. For example when the “Call for Action to Bring Sustainable heating and cooling to the heart of our cities” was presented by Ulf Kamne, Deputy Mayor of Gothenburg, to Hans Van Steen, the Acting Director of the Directorate Renewables, Research and Innovation, Energy Efficiency at the European Commission, on behalf of the 72 CELSIUS Member Cities.
With the financial support of EIT’s Climate KIC and the Swedish Energy Agency, this 2019 we are looking forward to building a solid foundation for a self-sustaining, independent entity. We will work closely with our members to define testbeds where cities will be able to develop innovative solutions which will hopefully then be scaled and replicated across the world. We will actively engage in the development of favourable policies and knowledge transfer focusing on the perspective of what cities need.
In 2019 we are going to choose a handful of cities within our network who would like to become sear-head cities. They will be working closely together with the Celsius hub with the aim of identifying and help solving bottlenecks for the city´s deployment of green heat and cold. Please contact us if you would like to become one of the first CELSIUS spear-head city.
