Årets LIGHTer-höjdpunkt närmar sig! LIGHTer International Conference är samlingspunkten för alla som är intresserade av lättviktsteknologi i Sverige. Vi ser fram emot två superintressanta dagar med internationella föredrag, tekniska djupdykningar i parallella sessioner, diskussioner om samarbeten, nätverkande och mycket trevligt umgänge. Kursexamination i LIGHTers doktorandkurs om lättvikt den 19 november innehåller tekniska sessioner och är öppen för deltagare på LIGHTer International Conference, se mer information nedan. Det andra stora som händer inom LIGHTer under hösten är sexårsutvärderingen av SIP Lättvikt som är inne i slutfasen. Den 19 november får vi resultatet som vi ser mycket fram emot. We have therefore divided the programme into four sessions addressing key themes; creating lightweight innovations with innovative materials, multi-material designs, lowering costs and shortening development times. We have one key note speaker for each key theme and also a special guest, Mr George Kotsikos from the European Commission talking about Horizon Europe. He will give a lightweight perspective on the next European research innovation and framework programme.   Professor Geoff Gibson from the University of Newcastle, UK will talk about the urgent need to improve composites fire behaviour in the transport and energy industries. Mr Silvan Halter is CEO at Wagner Solutions, Switzerland. From his perspective he will address how to implement multi-material based hybrid solutions in cost-effective lightweight applications for the automotive industry. Mr Laurent Morel, who is Manager Operations at InfraCore Company, will give a speech on cost-effective lightweight FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics) solutions. Assistant Professor Sofia Teixeira de Freitas works at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She is going to address the influence of laminate properties on the failure of adhesively bonded composite structures, using the principles of structural mechanics Other topics featured at the Conference are casted alloys, lightweight steels and CAE driven development. To round up the conference a matchmaking event will be organized. Individual matchmaking sessions will give you and your possible future key player room to explore opportunities. Interview with Geoff Gibson Get to know Professor Geoff Gibson who is a key note speaker at the LIGHTer International Conference. We are highly honoured to be able to welcome him in Gothenburg on November 20-21. "It took a revolution in the speed of prepreg placement technology to get composites used in the airframes of the Airbus A350 and the Boeing Dreamliner- but look at the weight-savings and other advantages that were achieved by doing this. We need to extend this revolution to other application fields." "My specific concern is to ensure that the gains made in structural design are not eclipsed by poor fire considerations." "New, innovative solutions with a high potential for weight and cost reduction require the involvement of many different departments and also a willingness to take a certain development risk. Large customers are often risk averse, have short development cycles and have a complex organization and decision taking process. The trend of including suppliers and sub-suppliers into the development process of new products and systems therefore needs to be rethought." Read the entire interview with Silvan Halter Interview Sofia Teixeira de Freitas We are very much looking forward to listen to Assistant Professor Sofia Teixeira de Freitas from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. "However, despite the fact that composite are far more weight-efficient than metals, today’s composite aircraft are as heavy or even heavier than their full-metal counterparts. By upscaling, the composite materials are “loosing” their strength-to-weight efficiency. The most important challenge in my field at this moment is to bring the composite material weight efficiency from a material level to a full-scale structure" "My research is focused on developing non-conventional composite bonded joints towards damage resistance and fasteners-free bonded joints." Read the entire interview with Sofia Teixeira de Freitas Kursexamination i LIGHTers doktorandkurs Doktorandkursen ”LIGTHER - Lightweight materials and design” 2019-2020 har startat med 14 nya doktorander inom LIGHTer PhD Network. Kurstema om materialval genomfördes i Göteborg med teoretiska föreläsningar vid Chalmers och branschseminarium och studiebesök hos Volvo Car Corporation. Nästkommande tillfällen kommer att äga rum hos KTH och SAAB i Linköping, Diab i Laholm, LTU, GKN Aerospace och Brogren Industries i Trollhättan och slutligen hos LTU och Gestamp Hardtech i Luleå.
