Green light for new port crane at Västra hamnen
We are very happy to inform that a decision has been made, which gives us the go-ahead to purchase a new crane for Port of Uddevalla. The crane under procurement is a rail-bound port crane which will be placed at Västra hamnen, Fröland. A rail-bound crane in Västra hamnen will strengthen our capacity here and create new opportunities for freight handling.

Västra hamnen is our port's development area and in the next few years a lot will happen. Parts of the operations that are currently in the inner harbour will move, and new establishments and customers will be added.

As procurement work has begun, we expect to have a rail-bound port crane in place at Västra hamnen by the summer of 2025.

An inspiration trip with a focus of port relocation
At the beginning of October, Uddevalla Hamnterminal's company Board, together with our Management team and selected politicians and officials from Uddevalla municipality, went to Port of Varberg. The ports of Varberg and Halmstad, with the common name Hallands hamnar, are in the final stages of carrying out a similar relocation of the port as the one we are facing.

The purpose of the trip was to get inspiration and information, a better picture of costs and important lessons from their journey before working on our own. It was a very well-organized and informative day, that began with a presentation by Johan Sigurdsson, chairman of Hallands hamnar. The presentation was followed by lectures by CEO Björn Alvengrip, Project Engineer Anders Wiberg and the chair of the municipal board Ann-Charlotte Stenkil. Marie Johansson, Project Manager at the port and street management, finished the day by talking about the implementation of the port expansion.

Thank you for generously sharing your experiences with us!

Varied further training for our stevedore workers
For our stevedores, tasks look different from day to day. This means that they also need to be able to do many different things. To keep their skills updated, and to ensure that we live up to the rules and requirements that exist, we conduct ongoing training in various areas.

Sixteen of our stevedores, including extra staff, recently participated in a chainsaw training. The course is a requirement to be able to use a chainsaw. As a stevedore with us you will use chainsaws to, among other things, cut timber for stamping. This is called dunnage and is used as load securing material in both containers and vessels. Just like many of the courses we use, this training was carried out via the Transport Union's Occupational and Work Environment Committee - TYA. With Jesper from the Swedish Forest Agency as instructor.

The next planned course will handle a completely different area, water life saving. A must to be able to correctly use the lifesaving equipment, such as ladders and stretchers that are available at our quays and terminals.

Innovative marine energy project completed in Port of Uddevalla
The Swedish marine energy developer Minesto has transported their first completed Dragon 12 wing to the port of Uddevalla. The Dragon 12 system is a power plant that will be used to extract energy from ocean water currents and tides

Final system integration and assembly is carried out in our port area. This will enable them to transport the Dragon 12 directly from us to its destination, Minesto's tidal production site in Vestmannasund in the Faroe Islands. This is a very exciting project that we look forward to follow!

Read more about the Dragon 12 system on Minesto's website and see the Dragon 12- wing's journey to Port of Uddevalla in the video below.

We handle every day and important topics in our work environment work
Marie Dygd Norberg, through our company health care Avonova, will hold several inspirational lectures with us during the autumn. The lectures have three different themes; stress, ergonomics, and sleep. Topics that are relevant for most people at some point, in both working life and life in general.

The lecture on stress is about noticing and managing unhealthy stress and increasing knowledge about how we can strengthen well-being and our attitude. The ergonomics lecture is about the cognitive and physical load at work, and how this can become as healthy and gentle as possible. The sleep lecture is about our behaviours, why sleep is so important and helpful routines to get better sleep.

The lectures are part of our work environment work and are held during working hours, where all our employees have the opportunity to participate. And there is great interest among our employees, many of them has signed up for all three lectures. Below is a picture from the first lecture, where the participants left with both new energy and aha experiences!

We sponsor learning materials with a focus on sustainability for middle school students
640x640transp Our organisation contributes to a sustainable community development.
We want to contribute to local sustainable community development and are therefore one of the companies that contribute to the Natur & Miljöboken. Natur & Miljöboken is a learning material that is being published to children in Uddevalla municipality during the school years of 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Natur & Miljöboken is a fact-checked, inspiring and, above all, up-to-date learning tool adapted for middle school students. The curriculum focuses on sustainable development as well as nature and environmental knowledge. Natur & Miljöboken has been distributed to over 5 million students in Sweden since 1993.

There is a lot of discussions about threats to the environment today. Natur & Miljöboken would rather talk about opportunities. They believe that giving the rising generation knowledge about our nature and environment at an early stage is an unbeatable way to create great conditions for sustainable development. In this year's books, the Global Goals are included, in both to exercises and lesson suggestions.
