Stepping up Sustainability is West Sweden Tourist Board’s joint initiative for sustainable tourism.
More than 300 businesses and 40 municipalities in West Sweden have chosen to connect to the initiative. This year Sustainability Awards have been given out for the first time and the winners are: Gunnebo House and Gardens and Lassalyckan Vasaloppet Centre, Ulricehamn Municipality.

The 360° Eat Guide is the first guide to look beyond the plate, considering both the gastronomic experience and the sustainability of what’s served.

The motivation of the jury:
'An experience in the Swedish forest that takes the guests back in time to when it is easy to breathe, listen, learn, see and taste what the farm and the surroundings have to offer. An impressive complete focus on sustainability and a constant desire to look ahead gave them the highest ranking.'

Gothenburg - the world’s most sustainable city - again
640x640transp
Gothenburg has been ranked as the world’s most sustainable destination by the Global Destination Sustainability Index – for the fifth consecutive year. The Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDSI) is a comparative annual ranking that was started in 2016 and this year the interest was greater than ever, with 73 participating cities from around the world.

Gothenburg to become Sweden’s first Literature City in Unesco’s global Creative Cities Network

“Gothenburg has a long history of compelling work in the field of literature, and the city’s admission to the UCCN is a great extension of that work. Throughout the years, Gothenburg has also been a model for inclusion, and its initiatives to promote writing and reading among the city’s non-native Swedish speakers are especially impressive. Being Sweden’s first literature city is very exciting not only for Gothenburg, but the entire literary community in Sweden”, says Amanda Lind, Minister for Culture and Democracy.

A new national cycling route - Unionsleden
640x640transp
A new national cycling route between Karlstad in Sweden and Moss in Norway has been opened. Many stages of the route pass through the West Swedish region of Dalsland, known for its breathtaking views, lakes and forests; natural scenery that is perfect to experience from the bike saddle.

The union between Norway and Sweden that was established in 1814 and dissolved in 1905 provided both the inspiration for and name of the route. There are many destinations along the Unionsleden with links to its history.
