In a picturesque lakeside setting just 25 minutes from Gothenburg, Hindås used to be a popular destination for summer and winter activities. Reviving that tradition, the new Hjortviken Country Club will offer 150 rooms, 2 restaurants, and 5 bars. The lake is just a stone’s throw away and activities include swimming, hiking, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.
The Sjuhäradsleden, a 140-kilometer hiking trail, begins in Hindås with a beautiful 13-kilometer stretch into the forest and in the winter, you will find cross-country ski trails that start 300 meters from the hotel.
The two restaurants, BayBay and The Club Room, will serve food inspired by Swedish and Spanish tradition.
Daftö Resort Ranked Highest in Sweden and Among Europe's Best Campsites
Daftö Resort in Strömstad was recently named one of Europe’s top-rated campsites for 2024 by Germany’s ADAC, Europe’s largest automobile association. This recognition secures Daftö's status as a "Superplatz" for 2025. The title, awarded to destinations with the maximum five-star rating, is based on feedback from ADAC’s 21 million members. Daftö is the only campsite in Sweden to receive this prestigious honor.
Boutique hotel Strana, located in Hälleviksstrand on the island of Orust, will open its new Strana Ocean SPA at the turn of the year. This 300-square-meter facility will have foot baths, a dry sauna, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a seaside sauna, and signature relaxation rituals. Strana’s accommodation includes seaside cabins, hotel rooms, and raft-glamping. The scenic Kuststigen hiking trail passes nearby.
The Göta Canal Trail, is nominated for “European Cycle Route of the Year”
West Sweden has more than half of Sweden’s national cycle routes and one of them, The Göta Canal Trail, is nominated for “European Cycle Route of the Year” The Göta Canal Trail (220 km) runs along a centuries-old canal, which has 58 locks and crosses several lakes. There are plenty of cafes and ice cream parlors along the way and a ferry to take you across the lakes during the summer.
The jury will announce the winner on Friday, February 14 during the Fiets en Wandelbeurs in Jaarbeurs Utrecht, the Netherlands.
