Sweden’s scenic cycling route along the Göta Canal has been named Europe’s best cycling route at the Fiets en Wandelbeurs fair in Utrecht, Netherlands. This award is a major recognition for Swedish cycle tourism and confirms the Göta Canal as one of Europe’s top destinations for cycling adventures.
In the past year, several international tour operators have packaged cycling trips along the Göta Canal, including Germany’s Reisen mit Sinnen and Wikinger Reisen, France’s Terres d’Aventure, the UK’s Regent Holidays, and Naar het Noorden from the Netherlands.
Lydde Gård in Kinna, 60 km southeast of Gothenburg, has received the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award from the Swedish Tourist Association. By blending tradition with modern eco-friendly solutions—solar-heated water, rainwater-flushed toilets, and locally produced honey—the farm sets a new standard for sustainable travel.
The Larson family’s careful restoration and focus on reuse impressed the jury, especially their way of involving guests in the estate’s story.
Opened in summer 2024, Lelångenleden is a 180 km regional cycling route that takes you from the coast in Uddevalla, through Dalsland’s lakes and forests, to Årjäng in Värmland. The trail follows low-traffic roads and cycle paths, with a mix of asphalt and gravel, and includes breathtaking sections along the Dalsland Canal. Divided into four stages, it’s ideal for both short trips and multi-day adventures.
The Dutch tour operator Travel Around has launched a 6-day gravel biking tour based at Ragnerud Camping in Dalsland, guided by a local expert from Dalsland Experience. Participants stay in Swedish cabins by Lake Ragnerudsjön and explore Dalsland’s scenic gravel roads on two guided rides. With high-quality gravel bikes available, there’s also time for independent exploration.
The itinerary includes opportunities for hiking, canoeing, and enjoying nature, making it a well-rounded outdoor experience.
The German tour operator Fjordkind Familien Reisen is launching four new round trips through West Sweden, designed especially for families. These trips focus on charming accommodation in beautiful surroundings, with kid-friendly activities and attractions along the way. One example includes eight nights in West Sweden, starting at Lekanders B&B on Tjörn, a beautiful island on the west coast, then continuing to Upperud 9:9 in Dalsland, and ending at Inforest, just outside Hjo. Along the way, families can enjoy paddling, hiking, cycling, and simply relaxing in nature.
