| In West Sweden, Christmas is a celebration of light, warmth, and togetherness. Towns glow with candles and stars, and festive markets fill the air with the scent of mulled wine and gingerbread. |
 |
St Lucia’s Day on December 13 brings songs and candlelight to the dark mornings. No Swedish Christmas is complete without the julbord – a generous buffet with classics like pickled herring, salmon, meatballs, and Julskinka (Christmas ham). Across Gothenburg and West Sweden, hotels and restaurants serve traditional julbord and offer festive packages for a truly authentic holiday experience.

| We have a winner! The best cinnamon bun in West Sweden 2025 is served at Brödfabriken in Jonsered! |
 |
The winner was chosen by followers of destination West Sweden on social media and vastsverige.com, just in time for Cinnamon Bun Day in early October. Jonsered is right on the Gotaleden hiking trail, making Brödfabriken a perfect stop for a cosy fika.
You can enjoy this staple of Swedish teatime – and plenty of other delicious treats – during a classic Swedish fika at any number of cafés across West Sweden. |
