| A new trail connecting Strömstad and Daftö has opened as part of Kuststigen Coastal Trail, West Sweden’s long-distance coastal trail network. |
 |
Stretching approximately 10 kilometres, the route offers coastal hiking and cycling with beautiful views across Kosterhavet National Park and the inner archipelago south of Strömstad. Located around 165 km north of Gothenburg, close to the Norwegian border, Strömstad is known as the gateway to Kosterhavet – Sweden’s first marine national park.

| Pilane Sculpture Park on the island of Tjörn has opened for the 2026 season, which also marks the park’s 20th anniversary. |
 |
This year, British sculptor Tony Cragg is the headline artist. Set within an ancient burial ground and a coastal landscape of open pastures overlooking the sea, Pilane has become one of Scandinavia’s leading destinations for contemporary sculpture. One of its most recognised artworks is Anna by Jaume Plensa, the monumental sculpture that has become an iconic landmark of the site.
Pilane is part of Tjörn – Island of Art, together with the Nordic Watercolour Museum and Pater Noster – A Home on the Horizon. |

| The exhibition Art & Science of Water returns to Pater Noster for the 2026 season. |
 |
Exploring the ocean through artistic and scientific perspectives, this year’s edition features Rachel Moore’s Galaxies in Her Eyes, inspired by her encounter with the humpback whale Sweet Girl. The exhibition also includes works by Lara Zankoul, Christy Lee Rogers, and Olle Nordell.
Located on the remote island of Hamneskär, off the coast of Marstrand near Tjörn, Pater Noster – A Home on the Horizon is a former lighthouse station dating from 1868. Today, the historic lighthouse keeper’s residence serves as a destination for art, gastronomy, and nature experiences at the edge of the North Sea. |

| For many Swedes, Midsummer is the most anticipated weekend of the year. |
 |
This year, Midsummer Eve falls on 19 June. Celebrated with flower crowns, dancing around the maypole and seasonal food, the tradition brings communities together across West Sweden.
We have gathered some of the best places where visitors can take part in authentic Midsummer celebrations, from coastal villages and archipelago communities to countryside settings.
Several hotels also offer special Midsummer packages, including decorating the maypole with flowers, traditional dancing, and traditional Midsummer dishes. |
