Information from Management

At tomorrow’s Friday fika wwill be visited by our future colleagues from ATF. Don't miss the Friday Fika where they present themselves and their research. A warm welcome to all!

Last week we had a staff meeting where we talked about the two parallel investigative assignments that concern CEC’s future organization and the way forward. As discussed, a decision from the Faculty mapping the path ahead will come at the beginning of 2023. Such a decision could encompass a vision for a new department and a cross-disciplinary centre, common localities and clear definitions of interfaces with other departments. On 9 December, Per together with the head of departments at Geology and Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science will meet with the Faculty leadership. If you have any input, please contact Per directly, either via e-mail or just knock on his door. As said before, now is the time to express visions, concerns, and hopes. The Dean also commented on the assignments in the Dean´s bulletin November this week. It states, among other things, that a first step towards a merger is to see if there are opportunities to co-locate Geology, INES and CEC in the premises of Geocentrum I and Geocentrum II. To this end, a so-called property study is now being carried out and is expected to be completed early next year. The Faculty will shortly publish a webpage with information on the process of co-locating and coordinating the activities in environmental science, geosciences and climate sciences.

CEC's new Economist will be in place from 1 January 2023 and we are delighted to announce that Caroline Unmack has accepted the position. Caroline joins us from the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics and we look forward to welcoming her to the CEC team in the new year.

Other staff news is that Madelene Johnn will end her position at CEC on 15 January 2023. Madde has been offered a new position at the HR department at LU's Central Administration. We will miss her a lot and wishes
her good luck! Work to recruit a successor has begun.

European Green Deal – have your say on legislative proposals The Commission has proposed stronger rules on ambient air, surface and groundwater pollutants, and the treatment of urban wastewater. HEU upcoming calls 2023 and 2024

There is an extreme number of relevant and exciting topics in the upcoming calls in Cluster 5 (climate etc) and Cluster 6 (biodiversity, food etc). CECs HEU and EU support page is updated with lists of headings in the destinations of Cluster 6, links to calls and links to open planning grants and support channels. CEC Research Initiation (Yann and Marianne) have also prepared lists of relevant calls – welcome get in touch if you are interested in getting a copy. Also, please note that the HEU grants usually comes with a need of co-financing from the host departments. Considering that we are in a time of changes and re-organization, it is absolutely vital that you get in touch with the CEC research coordinator (Marianne.hall@cec.lu.se) as soon as you start thinking about maybe possibly compiling some sort of HEU application, to make sure that CEC can cover your co-financing needs.
