Dear Valued Customer,
The unrest in the Middle East and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have led to sharply increasing fuel prices. This unforeseen development is affecting businesses and consumers worldwide. For shipping lines, the shortage of fuel has resulted in significantly higher bunker costs, which are well documented. Consequently, several container line operators have introduced emergency fuel surcharges to recover these additional costs.
Ports are also energy-intensive operations and are therefore exposed to fluctuations in fuel and energy prices. The Port of Helsingborg has seen a dramatic surge in the price of HVO biofuel in recent weeks and therefore finds it necessary to introduce an Emergency Energy Surcharge to secure our level of service and maintain efficient operations.
The surcharge will take effect on April 1st, 2026, and will remain in place for as long as energy costs remain elevated.
